Welcome to

The name Singapore came from the Sanskit words singa and pura - singa meaning lion and pura meaning city.  Formerly known as Temasek, legend has it that during the 14th century a Sri Vijayan prince encountered a lion upon setting foot in the island, believing the sighting to be an auspicious omen, the elated prince immediately gave the island its new name.
